Rotary of Cobourg Donates to Afghan Memorial

Pete-I

On Friday, January 6, 2012, the Rotary Club of Cobourg presented a cheque for $1,000 to John Williams, Mayor of Quinte West, for the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial Fund. The donation was made in honour of Pete Fisher for his work in support of the Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan and the families they left behind. Pete was instrumental in naming the stretch of the 401 between Trenton and Toronto the “Highway of Heroes” and for the striking of the new Canadian coin to honour the fallen and the citizens who gather for every repatriation in support of the families. Presenting the cheque are (left to right): Ian Lancaster, Rotary Club of Cobourg Director of Community Service; Pete Fisher; Mayor John Williams; and Tom McLean, President of the Rotary Club of Cobourg.

How can Canadians give to help build the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial? Please join all Canadians coast to coast who have already been giving to this Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial Fund. This is not a government initiative, but solely funded by Canadians honoring Canadian soldiers. Individuals, companies and organizations are all welcome to contribute to the fund to complete the $1.5 million dollar project. Donations, no matter how small, will make this a reality.
